PhotoThe native prairie zinnia is a great groundcover, performing best in soils with some rock. It spreads by rhizomes and blooms off and on all growing season.

PhotoIn late April, mesquite begins to bloom. In the cottage garden style, a gazing ball can be seen near a garden bench.

PhotoCory ephedra is an endemic (found only in one region) to West Texas. It is evergreen and no more than 8 inches tall. In late April it is adorned with tiny yellow blossoms.
