2018 Spring Break Camp
Spirit of West Texas
Every Texas History Month Sibley is visited by the Spirit of West Texas who teaches us lessons from Texas's past. We always learn so much from these visits that we want to share them with 3rd-5th graders in Midland and Odessa.
Campers follow clues left by the Spirit of West Texas to discover a week of spinning wool, cooking over campfires, whittling toys, and learning how Texas History still helps us today.
3rd-5th Grade Students
Mon., March 12 - Thurs., March 15
9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
$125 for Sibley Members and $150 for Non-Members
Campers are expected to bring a sack lunch, water bottle, weather appropriate clothing, closed-toed shoes, and a good attitiude
Monday, March 12: Surviving West Texas
West Texas can be a dangerous place when you aren't prepared. The Spirit of West Texas will show us how they survived in the 1800s, so we can be prepared for any modern emergency
Tuesday, March 13: Founding Foods
Where does food come from when you don't have a grocery store, and how do you cook it when you don't have an oven or microwave? The Spirit of West Texas will show us how we can Texify our food
Wednesday, March 14: Pioneering Fun
Fun is something that every human needs in their life, even people from the 1800s. The Spirit of West Texas will help us discover how creating our own fun can be more satisfying than anything you might buy
Thursday, March 15: Prairie Neighbors
You have got to work together if you are going to survive in West Texas. Trading, compromising, and sometimes fighting the Spirit of West Texas will help us learn from the successes and failures of Texans in the 1800s.
Registration is required for this camp. You can register by calling Jeremy Clothier at (432) 684-6827 or by clicking on this link.
