Arthropod Adventures

The arthropods are the most numerous and diverse of animal groups that includes insects,
spiders, centipedes, crustaceans, and their kin. Arthropod Adventure is an introductory lab and
field experience to the animals possessing many sets of jointed legs. Topics will include, but not
be limited to insect/human relations, the form and function of the arthropod body, behavior
and ecology, and the relation of the arthropod groups to each other. Each day, a field session
will be more focused on a detailed investigation of a smaller group such as dragonflies,
butterflies, beetles, grasshoppers, spiders, etc. Since no organism lives in isolation, but
interacts with other living things and the environment, ecological relationships will be studied
in detail. No insects or any other type of arthropod will be harmed or permanently collected in
these sessions as the living organism as a part of the ecosystem will be emphasized. The last
session is optional and will be focused on nocturnal insects. Photography and journaling are
